MEN: An Owner's Manual
This is written for Interim Films. It's the adaptation of a New York Times Best Seller by Stephanie Brush. In the book she gives her advice on how to handle men with a wit and sarcasm most a kin to Dave Berry. I had the honor of working with her to change it into a story about a series of relationships that inform the main character about men. It moves at a fast pace with a non linear story much like Annie Hall but told through the eyes of a woman. The sample is the opening sequence where the main character gives her history of men.
The Devil Makes Three
A dark comedy about dreams and how people define themselves through them. It's a dark tale of how people delude even themselves and will not face reality until they have to. The main character is a young physically underwhelming woman who has moved into her older sister's home while writing her self-help book and her relationship with her brother in law. Both characters dream of being something that they are not but can not face it. She has fallen for a gorgeous but vain and dim witted young man. She faces being a smart woman with the hard reality of a cruel world. In the sample she has invited her love interest over to her home.
Wine
This was some copy written that was never produced. It is not the best copy I ever wrote but you begin to see the sense of what I write. Often times I write for women. My humor comes from a dark place and so it comes out as desperate women sometimes. Since I wrote this years ago it's been interesting to see the progression into what now is a feature film career about women.
